BRAILLE
In order for Helen Keller to read, she had to use braille. Braille is a combination of raised dots used for blind people to read with. Braille was used to easily read with your finger tips. Although, you have to practice a lot to read it. Braille was invented by Louis Braille, who was blind and he lived in France. There used to be raised letters of the alphabet, but he said it was harder to determine which letters were which. So he made up a different combination of dots to determine each letter, with ease.
American Sign Language (ASL)
Helen Keller had to learn how to hear, so Anne taught her how to use sign language. Sign language is a lot of signs you can make with your hands in order to communicate. It is found much easier to learn than Braille. Juan Pablo de Bonet created a book on sign language that he made up, and became really famous for it. Although, people who cannot sign, they often cannot understand what another person is signing to them. It takes a little practice, but it does not take much.
